I don’t remember learning to read, but I know that I have always loved stories, especially genre fiction. As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned that a well written story can transport the reader to another world. I’ve made great friends with characters and been incredibly sad when a series ended.
In college, while pursuing a degree in English Literature, I discovered that I enjoy helping authors polish their work and making it ready for presentation or publication. I’ve spent the last seventeen years teaching young writers and helping them learn the skills of the writing process. For a writer, working with an editor is a continuation of that process. A good copy editor enables the writer to tell the story without the distractions of grammatical errors and inconsistencies. This is incredibly important, because it allows the reader to become immersed in the story, without being sidetracked by errors.
The name Daisy Copy Editing is both a tribute and a challenge for me. It is a tribute to my mother, who helped instill a love of reading in me at the earliest age. Daisies are her favorite flower. It is also a challenge from my father, to be the best and to do more of what I love. Every time I start something new or difficult, I hear my father quoting Doc Holiday in the movie Tombstone; “You’re a daisy if you do”. I take the tribute and the challenge very seriously. |
